Weather Monitoring Podcast
Part 1: Introduction
(Here's what I said in mine...it ended up being a little over a minute and a half)
"Our group project is about weather monitoring. When this project began we wanted to make sure we would at least briefly cover a lot of different areas, regarding the weather. We chose to start our project by focusing on some general, main concepts of weather, to create a broad range of topics; Including: temperature, humidity, clouds, atmospheric pressure, wind and precipitation, and how they all fit together to create the weather we see each day.
We then started to dive into these different areas, to get a better sense of each element that creates our weather. For our first element, Temperature, we looked at how wind chills and heat index affects our temperatures. For humidity, we focused on the water vapor in the air and relative humidity. We found the three main types of cloud formations, Cumulus, Cirrus, and Stratus Clouds and their main differences and similarities. For Atmospheric Pressure we concentrated on high and low pressure, the weight of air on the Earth’s surface, and how to use a synoptic map. We looked at different areas of wind, like the jet stream, gale winds, breezes, and how the wind is affected by the sun. And for precipitation we focused at sleet, fog, rain, snow, and hail, as well as looking more into the water cycle; such as evaporation, condensation and water collection."
Brooke did you do your part yet? It would be easier for me to do my conclusion if i could see what both of you guys do for yours!
ReplyDeleteSorry Caitlin! I thought I posted this earlier in the week!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Caitlin, I was wondering what your topics of your digital story and both lesson plans were so that I can add them into here when listing what weather topics we included.
Here is my script:
After exploring and learning about weather monitoring we were able to apply what we learned about our topic, and apply it to technology. Today’s technology is making it easier for teachers and students to create collaborative projects. Lesson plans created through Taskstream are very straightforward, and it is a very helpful tool to make sure that our lesson plans are complete, and thorough. Our weather monitoring lesson plans consisted of; types of weather, students’ favorite types of weather, cloud types, and how weather varies from day to day. These lesson plans would be used in our classroom to teach students about weather, and how we go about monitoring it. Our digital stories great tools to use to keep student’s attention and teach to our students both orally and visually. It is also a great way for students to collaborate and create a digital story on what they are learning in class for a project. Digital stories that we created include; clouds, types of weather fronts.
ok thanks! and my lesson plan was about weather safety (i only did one so far) and my digital story was about the water cycle! sorry i didnt get this to you sooner!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I have for the conclusion. let me know if i should make changes if you read this soon:
ReplyDeleteWe have been creating many tools to use in our classrooms and they are all great ways to build a project intensive classroom. These are great steps to increase student’s interest in learning. Another way we can do this in the future is to build connections for them to find answers themselves and become like journalists and scientists who research their own questions. We can create opportunities for our students to connect with real meteorologists and weathermen. Helping students make connections to the real world will cause them to become more interested in their education and learning and they will be able to ask professionals for constructive criticism. Being assessed by outsiders and people in the real world will make a world of difference in the work ethic that the students will have. However, teacher assessment is important also and as we have learned we should always remember our purpose in assessing our students. The progress that each student makes individually should be recognized and perhaps that means creating a way of assessing students that is not traditional. For example, we may try using more projects for assessing our student’s knowledge on what they have learned about weather. This is a goal we will be working on to further efforts in creating a project intensive classroom.
